Here at the Suttons, a long standing and successful global logistics provider, we have the opportunity for a General Manager to join our team based in Humberside.
As a General Manager for Suttons, you’ll be fundamental to our consistent delivery of high quality, cost effective, international logistics services. You’ll be influential in supporting our innovative approach to logistics and add significant value to the team.
You will provide strong management and leadership with effective coaching and mentoring to create a highly motivated and results driven workforce with a commitment to delivering excellent customer service with a safety first approach.

• Track record of success in a Managerial role, in leading an Operational Team and delivering operational excellence
• Previous, demonstrable experience in Profit and Loss Management, in a highly Commercial Environment
• Excellent track record in developing and managing effective multiple customer relationships- both internally and externally
• Experienced in supporting operational change and in winning support from team and peer group
• Previous experience of utilization and understanding of Human Resource Processes such as Disciplinary, Grievance, Investigations etc.

Skills and Competencies
• At least 5 years logistics/supply chain knowledge
• Exceptional levels of drive, enthusiasm and leadership skills
• Understands how to motivate, lead change and to improve performance
• Excellent commercial acumen with very strong negotiation skills.
• Highly credible presence, ability to influence at all levels
• Structured approach with ability to prioritise, plan, delegate and coach
• Entrepreneurial in approach & creative in building win/win solutions

Your responsibilities will include:

• Setting the highest level of safety standards within the Depot and ensuring they are reached and maintained
• Lead the development and implementation of a best in class operational system, ensuring highly effective performance management and strict operational disciplines
• Participate in operational reviews and take action where needed to drive costs down, help manage suppliers and reduce outstanding debts as directed by the Operational Director
• Drive delivery of financial targets through effective leadership, robust processes and business growth
• Actively looking and identifying new opportunities for the Depot to undertake with existing and new customers to maximize sustainable P&L performance improvement
• Making significant decisions impacting on costs and service to generate value for Suttons and customers to drive short, mid and long term profitability
• Managing operations within the Depot and working in a collaborative manner to ensure good network operations are achieved (the two are not exclusive)
• Driving excellent customer service to ensure Contract set KPI’s are achieved on an ongoing basis
• Building excellent relationships with existing customers, maximizing business opportunities in support of the Operational Directors
• Ensuring that the Depot is operating to optimised levels of cost-effectiveness, productivity and customer service
• Support Management Staff within your Operations Team in their development, providing guidance, coaching and mentoring
• Training, motivating and developing Operational members of team.
• Supporting people engagement at the Depot by effectively using P4P Process and objective setting to achieve clear goals that drive results and career development.
• Managing and supporting disciplinary action, grievance and performance interventions within your Depot with HR Function Support.
• Supporting IR issues by creating professionally functional relationships with Local and Depot Trade Union Representatives


• Should be a Graduate or of Graduate calibre, with high level of intellect.
• Evidence of continuous professional development is essential.
