Created in March 2017, The Royal Parks is a charity that supports and manages 5,000 acres of historic parkland across London. Millions of Londoners and tourists visit our beautiful sites, which offer unparalleled opportunities for enjoyment, exploration and healthy living in the heart of the capital.
We look after eight of London’s largest open spaces; Hyde Park, Green Park, Richmond, Greenwich, St James’s, Bushy and The Regent’s Park, and Kensington Gardens. We also manage other important open spaces in the capital including Brompton Cemetery, Victoria Tower Gardens, Canning Green and Poet’s Corner.
We are now looking for a Play Programme Co-ordinator to deliver The Royal Parks Play Programme in Greenwich Park playground and Gloucester Gate playground in The Regent’s Park.
The Royal Parks Play Programme is a project which started in 2019 and is partly funded by the London Marathon Trust hoping to encourage local children to play independently in the parks through creative and active outdoor play.
Play Programme Coordinator – Part Time; this is a fixed term contract for circa 2 years.
This is a part-time role, working 21 hours per week, three days per week, on a fixed-term contract until February 2022.
- Salary of £27,390 - £33,300 pro rata per annum, depending on experience
The part time equivalent salary equating to £15,977 - £19,425 per annum, depending on experience.

Working with our partner London Play, in 2019 The Royal Parks began an innovative three-year Play Programme engaging local communities with outdoor play.
This initiative, funded by the London Marathon Charitable Trust, supports the recent renovation of Greenwich Park playground and a new natural playground near Gloucester Gate in The Regent’s Park, soon to be completed.
This is a unique opportunity to develop, co-ordinate and support the delivery of a bespoke play programme to support and encourage children ‘out to play’.
As the Play Programme Co-ordinator, you will:
- Plan and co-ordinate an innovative Play Programme pilot to the highest standard, on time and on budget, in accordance with grant and project specifications
- Engage local communities and organisations around Greenwich Park and The Regent’s Park that will encourage local children to play in the parks independently and safely
- Work with our play partner, London Play, to deliver community outreach initiatives, co-ordinate and deliver play activities, ensuring project outputs and outcomes are delivered on time and to the highest of standards
- Monitor and evaluate the Play Programme, capturing quantitative and qualitative information, and ensuring timely reporting to the Play board and project funder
- Work with the Communications team to promote the successes of the project internally and externally, provide support and expertise on play to other Royal Parks, as requested
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Play Programme Co-ordinator who understands the complexities of working with children and communities and is keen to grasp this amazing opportunity to deliver a sustainable Play Programme with our project partner London Play.
The ideal candidate will be a self-starter who is able to build strong relationships with colleagues, partners and local communities. You will have excellent project management skills with a focus on delivering a high quality and impact led play initiative for The Royal Parks.
To join our team, you will need:
- A passion for outdoor play and engaging families with an active lifestyle
- Proven experience of developing and delivering successful outdoor play projects and activities for children, young people and families
- Successful experience of building positive working relationships with local communities, partners and other stakeholders
- Excellent project management skills, including planning resources and activities with partners, managing budgets, writing and reviewing risk assessments, monitoring activities and producing reports
- Flair to capture inspiring stories to support and promote the programme, working closely with our Communications team
- The ability be resilient under pressure and adapt to change, using your own initiative to resolve challenges
- A suitable qualification in a relevant subject (e.g. Play Work, Youth Work, Community Engagement, Forest School or Teaching) or equivalent experience
- An enhanced DBS check and a full valid driving licence
This is a part-time role, working 21 hours per week, three days per week, on a fixed-term contract of three years.
