We are looking for a qualified veterinary surgeon with significant experience in small animal practice to join Cats Protection’s Veterinary Department.

Cats Protection is the UK’s leading feline welfare charity with a nationwide network of centres, volunteer-run branches and charity shops. During 2019 we helped around 191,000 cats and kittens, an average of 520 per day.

The Veterinary Team are responsible for ensuring that the behaviour and welfare, husbandry and treatment of cats in Cats Protection's care is maintained to a high standard at all times. The team supports our adoption and homing centres, branches and all other departments by offering advice, assistance and training where required. We also administer centralised ordering systems for commonly used veterinary products, so the charity can benefit from substantial discounts.

Reporting to the Senior Field Veterinary Officer the post-holder will be involved in the development and delivery of veterinary services throughout the charity with specific responsibility for the centres and branches in the Midlands region. The role is home-based and candidates must live in the area specified in the job description - some travel is necessary for the execution of the post holder’s duties throughout the UK, although during the Covid period this role will be completely home based.

The successful candidate will be pro-active, self-motivated with excellent communication skills, have a special interest in feline medicine and welfare and be able to work at a senior level within the charity. They will have the personality and knowledge to enthuse and engage with volunteers, employees and professional colleagues and help to promote Cats Protection’s veterinary policies nationally. Continuing Professional Development is actively encouraged.
