Governance and Compliance Manager

The Institution of Mechanical Engineers is now seeking a highly-motivated governance professional from the not-for-profit sector to impact the organisation and protect the future of IMechE and mechanical engineering.

This role will involve developing a world-class governance function and promoting excellence in all areas of engineering and the work IMechE does.

We are now seeking a Governance and Compliance Manager to join our team at our headquarters in London.

Your Role

As a Governance and Compliance Manager, you will be tasked with enhancing, evolving and growing our governance function to ensure we comply with all necessary rules and regulations.

Delivering best practice across the entire IMechE estate, you will support the Chief Governance Officer, implement big-picture governance strategies and provide a range of technical advice.

Additionally, you will:

- Propose forward-thinking actions to ensure the success and development of our organisation
- Work with an array of boards and committees
- Develop and implement governance improvements
- Report compliance status and any potential issues that arise
- Ensure governance frameworks remain relevant and support excellence
- Supervise annual and general meetings and corporate elections
- Act as a professional secretariat for our advisory council

Your role will involve travelling to other IMechE sites in the UK and undertaking some overnight stays.

About You

To be considered as a Governance and Compliance Manager, you will need:

- Experience in, and knowledge of, complex governance matters and governing and legal documents, as well as implementing constitutional rules and regulations
- Experience in a line management or supervisory position and supporting committees and corporate governance functions
- Demonstrable experience of working in the not-for-profit sector, preferably within a registered charity or member association
- A degree (or equivalent professional qualifications or work experience)
- Proficiency in IT
