This is an exciting opportunity to join Sue Ryder’s team of Health, Safety and Environment Managers to support with the implement of our health and safety policy and maintain compliance across the Charity’s complex, multi-site operation, which includes neurological and palliative care centres, as well as our retail chain of over 400 shops and offices.

About you
Reporting to the Head of Health, Safety, Estates and Environment, candidates will be qualified to at least Level 4 in occupational safety and health, with a minimum of an existing Grad IOSH designation and actively working towards Chartered membership. We are looking for extensive health and safety experience in a complex, multi-site, multi-disciplined environment; including health or social care, retail and fundraising. As fire safety, safety risk assessment and training are integral parts of the job, qualifications and experience in essential. "Knowledge of critical incident management and business continuity would also be an advantage.

The role will involve a substantial amount of travel and some overnight stays so the ideal candidate would have easy access to major transport links
.
Key responsibilities include:

• Carrying out regular workplace inspections. Ensuring Health and Safety policy and procedure is understood and correctly administered including advising on the use of the disciplinary procedure where necessary.
• Producing reports, action plans and audits for achieving compliance and supporting the workplace on implementing action plans
• Investigating any serious incidents and non-compliance and make recommendations, liaise with Enforcement Authorities as necessary with the authority to stop works or process in the case of imminent danger or breach of legislation
• Identify organisational training needs, design, deliver, evaluate and validate the agreed statutory and mandatory programmes in collaboration with Education Leads, Quality and Learning Managers and the Learning and Development Team
• Prepare draft policy and guidance on Health & Safety. Ensuring documents are up to date and comply with relevant legislation and best practice
• Identify areas for policy development within Health & Safety and Evaluate and develop Health & Safety management structures within workplaces
