Main purpose and scope of job
The Day Shift Manager is responsible for the health, safety and wellbeing of all operational staff, contractors and visitors at the Allington Energy from Waste Facility. Reporting directly to the Operations Manager the Day Shift Manager will coordinate and supervise the day-to-day operational activities safely, efficiently and in line with FCC Environments policies and procedures.

The Day Shift Manager will lead operational improvements to increase performance, while liaising with the shift operations, maintenance, cleaning and 1/0 teams.

Duties and key responsibilities- Operational
Operate the facility in a safe, environmentally compliant and in an efficient manner.
Management responsibilities for direct reports to include direction, co-ordination and performance analysis.
Administer FCC Environment Safe System of Work, co-ordinate and control of contractors to ensure work is performed in accordance with the Site Safety Rules.
Carryout Safety Rules duties authorised up to an SAP 2 status. Perform the role as Safety Rules Outage co-ordinator.
The Day Shift Manager will take a lead role in monitoring and improving operational H&S performance to include safety inspections, plant area responsibilities and partake in routine H&S meetings and forums.
The Day Shift Manager will lead operational improvements to increase performance, while liaising with the shift operations, maintenance, cleaning and 1/0 teams.
Develop, implement, and maintain the facilities operational procedures and risk assessments.
Serve as the co-ordinator in the absence of the Department Manager.
Co-ordinate plant maintenance activities to include removing plant from service, providing a safe system of work, and returning the plant to service.
Lead operational improvement processes, management of corrective actions, defect notifications and rectification.
Stand in for Shift Managers during long periods of absence. Management and control of operational consumable materials.
Lead workplace investigations and operational root cause analysis activities.
Carry out technical incident reporting for plant trips.
Operational budget responsibility identified and agreed with the Operations Manager. Support the development and implementation of operational strategies and recovery plans. Lead operational compliance to internal and external standards.
Deliver and manage company or specialist training, manage new employee competency accreditation processes.
Support operational recruitment activities.
Support the training and development of apprentices. Trained First Aider.

Experience
The Day Shift Manager must be fully authorised to operate a EFW facility. Authorised to administer the FCC Environment's Safety Rules to SAP level 2.
• This role requires a broad technical background in either plant operations or maintenance.
• Preferably five years (5) experience, including practical and supervisory experience with large boiler and rotating plant.
• Experienced in supervising or managing large teams.
• Experienced in managing conflict and discipline.
• Experience in managing budgets and/or high value assets.
• Demonstrate understanding of the Environment Permit and emissions limits.
• Demonstrate good commercial awareness, including preparation of investment proposals, understanding of gate fees and revenue streams.
• Experience in managing the procurement of goods and services.
• Development and implementing operational procedures and risk assessments.
• Proven ability to select and build strong teams while demonstrating strong leadership and skilled in delivering measurable results through others.
• Ability in managing employee performance through feedback and engagement.
• Experience of setting personnel and financial objectives and targets.
• Experienced Safety Rules Outage co-ordinator

Essential Knowledge
Satisfactory completion of the relevant Competency Management System modules.
The preferred level of education is to a Higher National Certificate (HNC) in a technical or science subject, although relevant other qualifications with energy recovery or large process plant experience will be considered for the role.
• Completed or working towards a NEBOSH General Certificate in Health and Safety. Completed or working towards a NEBOSH Certificate in HSE Leadership in Health and Safety.
• Completed IOSH Managing Safely training.
• The application of safe HV switching.
• Computer skills related to Microsoft Office, Nisoft Eclipse, Gladis and ERP programs (CMMS).
• Understanding of safe and efficient traffic management within a busy tipping hall environment.
• Demonstrate clear effective team building, encouraging, motivation and people value.
