They work across North and Mid Essex providing free and confidential services to support people who are currently experiencing or have previously experienced, domestic abuse.

Their vision is for life without domestic abuse and their mission is to provide rapid responses to domestic abuse that increases safety for all victims, enabling them to rebuild their lives and create lasting change. They believe in raising awareness through education, training and partnerships in their community.

They are currently looking for an Independent Domestic Violence Advisor (IDVA) to join them for a one year fixed term contract.

The Role

As an Independent Domestic violence Advisor (IDVA), you will work within a multi-agency framework to provide a high-quality, specialist frontline service to high-risk victims of domestic abuse.

Specifically, you will identify and assess the risks and needs of domestic abuse victims using an evidence-based risk identification checklist, providing timely assessment within contract timescales.

Crucially, you will prioritise high-risk cases, providing a proactive short to medium term crisis intervention service delivered through individual safety planning and personal support.

As an advocate for high-risk victims, you will work across partners and agencies employing your knowledge of all relevant statutory and non-statutory support services available to domestic abuse victims.

This position will require you to work within a multi-agency setting to address the safety of high-risk victims and ensure their safety plans are co-ordinated through MARAC.

Additionally, you will:

- Handover cases to the appropriate services when they are no longer at imminent or high risk
- Support the empowerment of the victim and assist them in recognising the dynamics of domestic abuse
- Maintain accurate and confidential case management records
- Participate in the out-of-hours on-call rota to deliver support in the case of emergencies

About You

To be considered an Independent Domestic Violence Advisor (IDVA), you will need:

- Significant experience of working with individuals experiencing domestic abuse
- Experience of identifying and reporting safeguarding concerns in line with local policies and procedures
- Experience of working with risk and the ability to provide advice on moving service users forward
- Proven ability to maintain personal and professional boundaries
- Knowledge of the principles of risk assessment, safety planning and risk management for victims of domestic abuse and their children
- Knowledge of safeguarding procedures
- Knowledge of how to recognise types of abuse including neglect and physical harm
- The ability to work flexibly
- The ability to work in a manner that empowers service users to make decisions and choices about their recovery
- A full, valid driving licence and access to your own transport

Ideally, you will have experience of working within a multi-agency partnership and representing organisations at external meetings and conferences.

It would also be beneficial to have experience of using qualitative and quantitative data in the compilation of written reports.

Our client is particularly keen to hear from you if you have a Safe Lives IDVA or Women’s Aid IDVA qualification, or relevant degree (or equivalent).

It will also enhance your application if you have a comprehensive knowledge of current welfare rights legislation and child protection issues, with an understanding of how abuse impacts these areas legally.

This role is subject to a Disclosure and Barring Service check at an enhanced level.
