Salary- £9.90- £10.40 per hour

The Ashdown Centre provides respite care for families with children and young adults who have learning disabilities and other complex needs. It offers stimulating and fun sessions for more than 100 families in Worthing and its surrounding areas on the weekends, during school holidays and some evenings.
Our highly trained and experienced staff members create a caring and safe environment for the centre’s attendees, who have a wide range of needs. These needs are physical, developmental, educational, sensory, behavioural, and psychological, including autistic spectrum disorders, cerebral palsy, Down’s syndrome, and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).
We are looking to recruit Bank Support Workers to work at our Ashdown Centre. You will supervise children and provide direct care and play activity for children and young people with a range of special needs, working as part of a team to ensure a safe, stimulating care environment.
You will work as part of a team to support a small group of children, to participate in activities, outings and events in a safe, stimulating and person-centred environment.

Essential

Proven experience and a passion for supporting children with learning disabilities and other complex needs to live life to the full
Ability to communicate appropriately and effectively with a range of different people, including children, relatives, carers, staff, and other professionals
Experience of working in a childcare setting
Ability to maintain confidentiality
Ability to administer medication (training will be provided) and provide personal care
Ability to provide practical assistance to enable the people we support to engage in a wide range of activities within the day service, the local community and/or via telephone, skype, zoom
Ability to follow guidance to support children with their behaviour if required
Excellent IT, and literacy skills
Works well as part of a team and also able to work alone
Follows correct policies and procedures in all aspects of work
Ability to work flexibly including evenings, weekends and/or school holidays
Satisfactory Disclosure and Barring Check

Desirable
Knowledge and understanding of the needs of children with learning and physical disabilities, complex health needs, and autism, and their carers
Knowledge of local services for children with learning disabilities
Understanding of safeguarding
Experience of working with carers
Experience of working in the care sector
Experience of enabling people to engage in a wide range of activities within a day service setting and the local community
Knowledge of Makaton sign language
Ability to drive a minibus
Relevant professional Qualification (EG NVQ, QCF)
