Established in 1904 at Myrtle Farm, Thatchers Cider is the largest independent British family-owned supplier of premium quality cider to the UK on and off-trade outlets. Currently run by the fourth-generation cider maker, Martin Thatcher and remain firmly rooted in Somerset at Myrtle Farm.

For many years we have worked with LRS to press all their blackcurrants on-site here at Myrtle Farm. This takes place from June to August. We are now looking for a temporary team to help us with this process over the summer months.

This is a brilliant role for a laboratory testing professional looking to gain short term experience with our nationally recognised company.

Working on our picturesque farm, set in the idyllic fields of Somerset, you will gain experience working for one of the UK’s most recognisable cider presses, with the potential for future employment.

The role - what you will be doing

As our Fruit Processing Lab Technician, you will be responsible for carrying out various tests to ensure the quality and suitability of the fruit. You will use the results to inform the production team and avoid any instances of non-conforming product

Specifically, you will carry out a variety of instrument-based and ‘wet chemistry’ titration-based tests, to ensure that the process is running correctly, and the final product meets specifications.

Crucially, you will demonstrate good laboratory practice, ensuring the cleanliness and coolth of the lab and the maintenance of working solutions of all chemicals, consumables and stocks.

Additionally, you will:

- Promptly enter results into our computer system via a tablet
- Calculate additions, using basic ratio maths and systems built into Excel spreadsheets
- Perform ad hoc testing as required by the Production Team

About you

To be considered a Temporary Fruit Processing Lab Technician, you will need:

- To be accurate with good attention to detail
- A responsible, trustworthy and positive attitude
- To be calm under pressure
- To be organised and punctual
- Good interpersonal skills

Hours

The working hours will be based on a 4 on - 4 off rota working 12-hour shifts Monday-Sunday, alternating between days and nights. A full season rota will be issued at the start of the season.

As this is a short, fixed-term role for the summer period you would not be expected to take a significant amount of time off over the course of the season.
