Job Description

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for a Program Delivery Manager with extensive line management and project management experience to be responsible for leading our project delivery team in managing the delivery process for a wide range of project activities associated with the design, installation and commissioning of experimental apparatus as part of the fusion science programs and their enabling technologies. You will be passionate about continuous process improvement and will be highly strategic, focussed, and capable of driving the implementation of proposals in a timely and effective manner, ensuring good project management practices and enabling a supportive delivery culture.

It is an exciting time to join our H3AT Department, working as part of our world-first tritium research centre. You will be working with a range of stakeholders who are realising Fusion as a viable power source and this will come with its own unique and diverse range of challenges, while delivering some of the UKs most future-defining projects.

You will be well suited to this role if you are able to display exemplary leadership behaviours and exceptional stakeholder management skills. You must have a track record of delivering complex engineering projects and will possess chartered status in relevant STEM discipline.

What will you be responsible for?

-Leading and managing science project activities associated to the H3AT fusion science programs and their enabling technologies.
-Providing management of project(s) of budgets of up to circa £25M
-Maintaining oversight of projects, particularly estimate formation, planning, cost forecast and monitoring, overall execution strategy delivery
-The effective deployment of project resources, through clear definition of roles and responsibilities, working methods and the sequencing of tasks
-Ensuring all project activities are undertaken in a systematic manner with a Systems Engineering approach at the core of the technical solution to project objectives.
-Reporting of progress against milestones, changes, exceptions, budgets, and other key performance indicators.
-Liaising with other Groups and Departments to ensure effective co-ordination and collaboration across interfaces and competing demands.
-Collaborating with external partners and national/international travel may be required to attend and present at conferences.

Qualifications
Essential skills, experience and competence required

-Chartered status in relevant Engineering disciplines
-Professional Project Management qualification (PMI or equivalent -required at L.6)
-Extensive experience as a line manager, ideally of a team working in a matrix structure (L.6)
-Track record of delivering complex engineering projects to budget, time and cost
-Passion for ensuring good PM practices and culture
-A Pro-active approach to safety, with good appreciation of UK compliance requirements in design
-Commercial awareness with the ability to make sound economic decisions that maximise project value
-Excellent communication, influencing, and collaboration skills

Desirable skills, experience and competence

-Knowledge and understanding of fusion science and/or technology and engineering

This role is split over two levels: the Level 5 offers a salary of £49,396 - £52,293 (inclusive of MPP), the Level 6 offers a salary of £60,317 - £63,855 (inclusive of MPP). Your level will be assessed as part of the interview process.
