The Company

It’s an exciting time to be part of BAI Communications. We have been awarded a 20-year contract by Transport for London (TfL) to deliver high-speed mobile connectivity across the capital in the largest infrastructure project of its type in the world. As part of the contract, BAI will build and operate a new advanced network enabling passengers to enjoy uninterrupted connected travel across the Tube for the first time. This will mean passengers can catch up on work, stream content, contact family and friends, and access social media while travelling. A full-fibre network will also be delivered that will connect to buildings and street assets, like traffic lights and lampposts that house small mobile transmitter cells to leverage the power of 5G and the Internet of Things.

The Position
Job Title: Apprentice Network Engineer
Apprenticeship Course: Level 4 Network Engineer
Apprenticeship Duration: 24 months
Location: London W2
Working Hours: Monday to Friday 9 to 5.30
Salary: £21,500


Role and Responsibilities

Initially you will be on a guided learning path to gain exposure and first-hand experience into the incredibly exciting programme we are delivering for Transport for London. You will be accountable to support the wider Network Operations Team with the maintenance of our network infrastructure and services as a core pillar of our customer led strategy. Working in partnership with vendors and outsourcing partners this role will provide high performing and reliable solutions to meet our business needs.

Support networks through changes to configuration, system installations, defining, documenting and testing system performance of BAI’s core network elements.
Support the maximisation of network performance by monitoring, upgrading and resolving issues.
Support network operations to undertake and resolve faults, within a LAN/WAN, across different Network devices
Fault find and identify locale specific Network issues, including suggestion of possible solutions.
Explore, assess and share relevant knowledge on new and emerging technologies including Wi-Fi, small cells, Fibre and the use of DAS beyond distribution
Be part of the core technology team supporting the long-term end-to-end network architecture working with colleagues from in the UK Team to leverage experience and capability.
Assist with the documentation of the BAI system requirements.
Support the wider team with investigating and optimising the operation for future deployments, troubleshooting when required and recommending pragmatic solutions to address issues as they arise.
Maintain a knowledge of current industry standard network components both hardware and software based.


Desired Qualities, Skills and Knowledge:

Customer focused, keeping the customer at the heart of all decision making.
Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
Experience using Microsoft Office, Excel, Word, Adobe Acrobat (PDF).
Exposure to some phases of a large network transformation from the design phase through to full production would be advantageous
Experience of technologies above and below in the stack; e.g. facilities (e.g. power), fibre, optical networks, applications, systems would be advantageous
Minimum requirement of 5 GCSE’s
