Hours of work: The hours of work are on an as and when required basis, to cover periods of sickness/annual leave. Availability of work on our Bank will obviously vary dependent on many factors. We must state that we are under no obligation to offer you work, and for legal reasons all work offered and accepted will be separate from the next. We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and motivated Registered Bank Nurse to join our values led organisation and dedicated nursing team, providing high-quality person-centred care for people with a wide range of life limiting conditions. The successful candidate may be someone looking to develop their interest and expertise in palliative and end of life care, or alternatively, someone looking to strengthen and consolidate their existing knowledge in this specialist setting.

This post allows you to work with a wide range of professionals, enabling you to assess, plan and deliver a co-ordinated and multi-disciplinary approach to care. This provides a unique opportunity to enable people’s individual needs to be met in a truly holistic and person-centred way.

The successful candidate will have good communication, organisational and interpersonal skills. They will have the ability to embody and live the hospice values; united we will be positive, professional and passionate. The successful candidate will be supported in their role to ensure they feel competent and confident to deliver and maintain high standards of care. A willingness to learn and undertake further post registration training is required, as well as the readiness to support others, such as volunteers or other relevant team members.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Communicate appropriately with patients, their carers and relatives and other visitors to the unit.
2. Communicate appropriately with all staff, liaise with other departments and agencies and attend internal meetings as appropriate.
3. Ensure that Dove House Hospice ltd policies relating to the security, control and administration of drugs are adhered to in line with Dove House Guidance
4. At the request of a senior nurse and under their guidance co-ordinate in-patient activity and communications for the duration of a shift as appropriate.
5. Participate in the supervision from an identified senior nurse as required.
6. Supervise, direct and support care assistants & volunteers working on the inpatient unit and Day Therapy Unit.
7. Report and record any complaints from patients, visitors and staff reporting them to the nurse in charge.
8. Attend statutory training as requested and be responsible for own professional development in line with MNC requirements.
9. Work in other areas of patient care as required, subject to the needs of the service.
10. Maintain confidentiality and comply with all aspects of the NMC Code of Professional Conduct and all Dove House Hospice policies and procedures.
11. Undertake any other relevant duties as requested by senior nurses.

JOB SUMMARY:
1. Demonstrate and develop an interest and expertise in palliative care and end of life care nursing.
2. In conjunction with the senior nurse on duty, be responsible for the nursing care and support of an identified group of patients.
3. Be responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care, documenting all relevant information accurately and legibly.
4. Ensure that a patient’s holistic needs are met in a person centred way.
