Financial Accountant

We are currently looking for a Financial Accountant to join our team in Birmingham where you will be responsible for the day-to-day financial accounting for both Gambling Regulation and the National Lottery.

Your Role

As the Financial Accountant, you will be supporting the Financial Controller in preparing final accounts at 9 and 12 months for the external audit and supporting their requests and queries throughout the external audit process.

Your role will also involve:

- Supporting the Financial Controller in the treasury management of the Gambling Commission in accordance with managing public money.
- Line managing two Assistant Financial Accountants.
- Responsible for the integrity of all financial systems and maintaining timely delegated authority structures within.
- Ownership of the balance sheet, ensuring timely and regular reviews are conducted with the Financial Controller.
- Ensuring all internal and external returns (including HMRC and Digital, Culture, Media & Sport (DCMS)) are completed, reviewed and returned on time.
- Deputise for the Financial Controller when required.

About You

To be considered as our Financial Accountant, you will need:

- Qualified accountant or QBE with significant experience.
- Team management experience.
- Good internal and external stakeholder management skills.
- Good understanding of accounting principles including the application of notes and disclosures in year-end accounts.
- Ability to meeting tight deadlines and work under pressure. This will involve managing your own workload and managing the team’s activities to ensure there is capacity to meet the needs of the business.

Knowledge of public sector accounting such as Managing Public Money and FReM would be desirable.
