Our Electrical Engineering department

- Deliver electrical, electronics and power systems projects throughout UKAEA
- Operate, maintain and enhance the MAST-U, JET and Pulsed Power supplies
- Own and maintain the Machine & Instrumentation Protection System for the JET experiment
- Operate, maintain and enhance the LV and HV distribution for UKAEA
- Deliver general electrical services installation and refurbishment services to programmes across UKAEA
- Are responsible for the safe management of the major electrical systems at UKAEA
- Are the Leading body for Electrical Safety on the Culham site, supporting the other SAP(E)'s, Chief Engineers Unit and respective Departments

Job Description

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for a self-motivated and enthusiastic Lead Electrician with good communication skills and the ability to adapt to new situations and challenges. As a Lead Electrician, you will undertake a wide range of electrical work in an industrial environment covering installation, commissioning, fault-finding, maintenance and repair in accordance with current legislation and codes of practice. You’ll supervise and lead a small team of electricians on allocated projects and mentor assigned electrician apprentices through to qualification.

What will you be responsible for?

- Supervise the daily work and mentor and support the training of 2 UKAEA electrician apprentices
- Responsible for the installation phase of various projects ensuring Safe Systems of Work are followed and timescales are adhered to
- Work with diverse teams across site with the ability to prioritise daily tasks and allocate work to team members according to the appropriate work plan for each project
- Install indoor and outdoor electrical distribution equipment in compliance with current regulations and local standards
- Undertake the construction, wiring and commissioning of electrical control cubicles
- Perform testing, commissioning and fault-finding tasks on various electrical control and distribution equipment
- Maintain high standards of safety and comply with safety procedures at all times

Qualifications

Essential skills, qualifications and experience

- Time served electrical craft apprenticeship
- City and Guilds 2357 (Level 3), or equivalent, updated to BS 7671: 18th edition
- Demonstrable supervisory experience
- Demonstrable work experience in an industrial/commercial environment and ability to work safely in accordance with a Written Safe System of Work (WSSoW)
- Work and communicate as part of a team
- Ability to solve problems and prioritise and balance the workload

Desirable skills, qualifications and experience

- Knowledge and work experience of large distribution networks
- City and Guilds 2395 (inspection and testing) or equivalent
