The Company

Ataxia UK are the leading national charity for the 10,000 people in the UK diagnosed with Ataxia, a group of neurological disorders that affect balance, co-ordination and speech.

Our vision is a world free of Ataxia and our mission is to support everyone affected by ataxia until we find a cure. We fund research into finding treatments and cures and offer advice, information and support to people affected by the condition.

We are now seeking a Data Manager to join us and support healthy, productive data management on a full-time, permanent basis, working 35 hours per week.

The Role

As the Data Manager, you will oversee all organisational data and ensure we comply with UK Data Protection Law.

Specifically, you will manage key compliance records along with policies, procedures and processes relating to Data Protection and Information Governance.

Ensuring a timely response to Impact Assessments and Data Sharing Agreements, you will also oversee Subject Access Requests and other individual rights requests.

Additionally, you will:

- Effectively manage our database (Raiser’s Edge)
- Regularly undertake data cleaning to maintain and improve quality
- Review, develop and maintain key policies
- Import and export data from the database
- Manage data access permissions
- Train staff on data policies and procedures

About You

To be considered as the Data Manager, you will need:

- Previous experience in a data protection role, such as Data Protection Officer
- Excellent knowledge of Data Protection Legislation, particularly the Data Protection Act 2018 and EU/UK GDPR and PECR
- The ability to risk assess and make informed and reliable judgements regarding data protection and privacy risk
- Analytical and investigative skills to identify areas of non-compliance and determine root causes, key risks and challenges
