RACE (Remote Applications in Challenging Environments) is based at Culham, within UKAEA, specialising in remote handling and automated systems. RACE’s objective is to create an internationally recognised centre of technical leadership for Remote Applications in Challenging Environments, delivering complex solutions, developing new technologies and supporting UK industry.

Job Description

Who are we looking for?

As the RACE Electrical Project Engineer, you will work closely alongside the project managers and Electrical System Engineers to ensure electrical work packages are of high quality and delivered on time and to budget. You will focus on project delivery and supporting the management and upgrades of SolidWorks Electrical (SWE) CAD package. You'll participate in project design activities such as creating design specifications, generating layout designs, overseeing/creating detailed design drawings within the Electrical Systems group.

What will you be responsible for?

- Overseeing the production of electrical manufacturing documentation for large complex remote handling systems over a variety of different projects within the RACE department
Managing and updating the RACE Electrical SolidWorks Electrical cable and components Library
- Providing regular updates to RACE Electrical SolidWorks Electrical training materials and ensuring standards are maintained across the group
- Developing and effectively implementing systems for managing design requirements and interfaces, and processes for ensuring satisfactory performance/compliance, and ensuring these are adopted by design team
- Ensuring that detail designs are appropriately validated (appropriately toleranced as required for the different manufacturing options), working with engineering technicians/analysts/suppliers as necessary, and ensuring appropriate adherence to design standards. Also ensuring that the designs are compliant with the methods of manufacture/assembly/maintenance
- Managing and co-ordinating subcontractors and coaching and supervising less experienced staff

Qualifications

Essential skills, experience and competence required

- Electrical engineering design experience and the ability to assess design work
- Ability to interact efficiently with people in a variety of different situations
- Ability to deliver electrical engineering projects
- Ability to produce high quality work to deadlines
- Flexible working attitude with the ability to work as an individual or as a team member
- Thorough understanding of governance, Health and Safety and compliance issues
- Experience of working in a cross-functional team
- Experience of working in a safety-dominated working environment
- Experience of working in technical engineering groups
- Charter in Engineering or working towards Chartership
- Engineering or technology degree, or equivalent experience

Desirable skills, experience and competence

- Experience in people management
