The Role

We are looking for a Criminal Justice Practitioner to support service users within the Criminal Justice system to access appropriate treatment and interventions for their complex needs. The role will promote an increase in the use of Community Sentence Treatment Requirements, Conditional Cautions and Community resolutions and those accessing services from police or court custody. This will be achieved by working alongside partner agencies in a variety of criminal justice settings to undertake DRR/ATR/Conditional Caution and Community Resolution assessments, care co-ordination of those subject to ATR’s and signposting clients to appropriate support agencies to safeguard their effective reintegration into the community. The role will involve offering a range of harm reduction interventions and helping to engage service users in a recovery focused way to attain improved health outcomes and achieve their personalised treatment goals.

We are looking for people with experience of working within the Criminal Justice and/or Substance misuse setting. Effective partnership working and communication skills are key to this role, alongside assessment, care planning and risk management skills. The post will be based in the Colchester area, and you will be part of a wider team who work with Offenders with Complex and Additional Needs across the County of Essex in the community.

About You

To join us as a Criminal Justice Practitioner you will need:

- Relevant experience of work in the field of problematic substance use, criminal justice or another comparable field
- Experience of managing a busy caseload and excellent organisational skills
- Evidence of continuous professional development
- Evidence of effective partnership working and the ability to network for the benefit of the client and service
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft Word and familiar with relevant database management systems
- The ability to evidence excellent communication skills, both written and oral skills

Experience of creating person-centred care plans/timetables based on identified needs would also be an advantage, as would knowledge of interventions available and making appropriate referrals depending on individual needs.

Experience of partnership working, liaising with community and CJS services and developing reintegration and resettlement plans would be desirable.

A S/NVQ 3 in Care (DANOS-accredited) or equivalent, or willingness to work towards an agreed number of modules within their probationary period would be equally favourable.

Please note, we will be assessing applications as they are submitted and may close this role should we find sufficient applicants with which to make our shortlist. As such, we would advise applying as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.

We encourage and welcome applications from people of all backgrounds and believe it is important to include people with lived experience to ensure the needs of the people we support are represented. We are committed to creating an inclusive working environment where everyone is free to be themselves and we ensure equity of opportunity.
