About Us

Brecon Beacons National Park Authority protects the natural beauty, wildlife and cultural heritage of Brecon Beacons National Park.

We are now looking for Senior Planning Officer to join us on a permanent, full-time basis working 37 hours per week.

The Role

As a Senior Planning Officer, you will support our Planning Development Management, by overseeing major planning and conservation applications in the National Park.

Negotiating all planning work with agents, developers and statutory bodies, you will conduct site visits and provide recommendations and reports over the planning lifecycle.

Managing Appeals and Examinations, you will represent the Park Authority as an expert witness and provide appeals support to other Planning Team members.

Additionally, you will:

- Train and mentor planning officers and technicians
- Respond to formal complaints about the planning service
- Provide Environmental Impact Assessments for the Authority

About You

To be considered as a Senior Planning Officer, you will need:

- A minimum of five years’ relevant experience in development management
- Good knowledge of planning policy, legislation and procedures
- The ability to research, interpret and analyse a variety of complex data
- The ability to mentor and train staff on planning related issues
- Good communication and report writing skills
- Good interpersonal skills with the ability to deal diplomatically with the public
- A full, valid driving licence
- A degree (or equivalent) in Town and Country Planning

Ideally, you will have membership of the RTPI and familiarity with Sustainability Appraisals. Knowledge of the Brecon Beacons National Park and its statutory purpose would be advantageous.

A Level 1 Welsh language qualification would be beneficial to your application.
