Selworthy Special School is part of The Oak Partnership and boasts multiple schools across the Somerset area, with three sites in Taunton and a further specialist provision in Wellington.

We are now looking for a number of Teaching Assistants to join our fantastic team on a permanent, full-time basis.

The Role

As a Teaching Assistant, you will work under the direction of the class teacher to provide support to our pupils by facilitating their independence and ensuring their welfare.

Supporting pupils to achieve their full potential, you’ll monitor their activities and report on your findings maintaining records of progress and noting incidents of challenging behaviour.

You’ll assist with pupils’ development and welfare by modelling positive behaviour, assisting them with their physical needs and supporting the provision of physiotherapists, speech therapists and other professionals.

Additionally, you will:

- Supervise play time activities
- Assist in organising teaching areas and resources
- Support programmes of targeted intervention

About You

To be considered as a Teaching Assistant, you will need:

- The ability to ensure learners comfort, to assist with wheelchair transfers, use mobility equipment, positioning, hoisting and personal care
- The ability to support learners in curricular activities that take place both in school and out in the community i.e., swimming, horse riding and educational visits
- The ability to establish positive and productive working relationships with a wide range of stakeholders
- Knowledge and understanding of Health & Safety requirements
- A good standard of education

Experience of working with or caring for children would be beneficial but is not essential to your application, as would experience of working in an educational setting.

The closing date for this role is the Friday 9th December 2022.
