About Us

Brighton & Hove Speak Out is a dynamic local advocacy charity. We support people with learning disabilities to have a voice and choice and control over their lives through providing a range of advocacy services and community projects.

Our vision is a fairer world for people with learning disabilities where they are listened to and have the same rights, choices and control over their lives as everyone else. To help us achieve this, we are now looking for an Advocacy and Engagement Co-ordinator to join our team on a permanent, part-time basis, working 14 - 21 hours per week.

The Role

As Advocacy and Engagement Co-ordinator, you will help to deliver our programme of engagement and consultation activities.

Running consultation events and focus groups on key issues, you will support the voices of people with learning disabilities to have their say about local services and recommend changes for improvement.

You will also support a group of service users to take part in planning, running and reporting findings to the Learning Disability Partnership Board, facilitating links between services and professionals that will enable recommendations to be realised.

Additionally, you will:

- Oversee a weekly drop-in session
- Carry out research into consultation topics
- Network to develop relationships with stakeholders
- Ensure monitoring and evaluation systems are used
- Keep accurate records

About You

To be considered as an Advocacy and Engagement Co-ordinator, you will need:

- Experience of advocacy or work with vulnerable clients
- Experience of working in an empowering way with people who are undervalued in society
- An understanding of the values and principles supporting independent advocacy and the ability to put these into practice
- Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
- Proficiency in IT with the ability to use a CRM database (training available)
