Retail Senior Customer Assistant (Part-Time)

Royal Voluntary Service hospital cafés, shops and trolleys are part of the fabric of the NHS and a real asset in their own right. The Role

Working alongside a friendly team, you will support the management in the day-to-day running of our shop and coffee bar in Whittington Hospital.

In this role, you will be responsible for:

- Providing friendly, helpful and efficient customer service at all times
- Supervising a team, ensuring food is prepared to high standards
- Operating the till, undertaking cash reconciliation and opening and closing the service
- Receiving deliveries, storing appropriately and rotating stock
- Engaging, directing and leading volunteers
- Maintaining Health and Safety and food hygiene standards
- Supporting the manager to achieve KPIs
- Accessing team members’ and volunteers’ performance

Working Hours

This is a permanent, part-time role working 15 hours per week on Saturday and Sunday.

Our retail sites can be open on bank holidays. There may also be opportunities for paid overtime in busy periods or to cover absence.

What you’ll need

Working in a hospital requires a special kind of customer service. Your ability to communicate with a variety of people in a friendly and cheerful way will make a real difference to someone’s day. The key is to adapt your approach to each person to ensure their needs are met.

- Previous experience in a retail or cafe environment with experience of managing people
- Knowledge and experience of general administrative processes
- Excellent communications skills
- Skills in organising, delegating and prioritising
- The ability to remain calm and professional in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent customer service skills
- Experience with email and internet
- The ability to work within a passionate team as well as working on your own on occasions
- Flexibility towards the needs of the business, attending out of hours training if required

Knowledge of EPOS systems would be beneficial.

Knowledge of Food Safety and Health & Safety procedures would be advantageous but full training will be given
