We are seeking an enthusiastic and experienced sous chef to join our highly motivated, supportive and friendly catering team. This is a fantastic opportunity to join our dedicated team who provide meals to staff, visitors, families and palliative care inpatients at this critical time in their life, when it matters most.

Hours: 37.5 hours per week (over 7 days)

What is the role?

- The sous chef is responsible for supervising the kitchen and the catering staff in the absence of the senior chef. You will cater for patients, their families and staff creating high-quality meals and dishes upon request.

- Training the catering staff and division of labour within the kitchen stations.

- Independently preparing specific dishes from scratch you will use the best approach within our cooking processes to ensure both speed and quality of delivered food.

- As an integral part of the catering team you will be involved in inventory control, food cost control and administrative duties including ordering supplies and ensuring equipment is operational.

- With the support of all the catering staff you will also deliver the catering requirements for key prospect hospice events which include ‘Light up a Life’/ Garden Fete / AGM / scheme openings / fundraising events.

- Day-to-day you will maintain impeccable hygiene standards and proactively maintain compliance with the health and safety policies of Prospect Hospice, escalating any issues to the executive chef where required.

- Prospect Hospice is supported by a team of café volunteers, who you will be required to supervise to ensure excellent service delivery.

The successful applicant will be able to provide outstanding catering support to our inpatient unit. About you:

- Significant experience of catering delivery within a charity, health or commercial organisation.

- Track record of contribution to a high performing team.

- Positive oral communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with customers, visitors, patients and staff.

- Ability to prioritise and manage own workload and be proactive to meet deadlines.

- Able to work effectively unsupervised and as an enthusiastic team member.
