Sector/Specialism: Charity

Bank Staff Nurses
Brighton, East Sussex

The Company

We’re Blind Veterans UK, a charity that helps vision-impaired ex-service people from every generation rebuild their lives after their sight has been affected. Founded in 1915, by Sir Arthur Pearson, to help the many veterans losing their sight after the First World War, we have over a century of experience providing the best care to our veterans.

Since then, we’ve provided support to tens of thousands of vision-impaired veterans, helping them to regain their independence. By providing our members with the tools and skills they need to lead a fulfilling and active life, we ensure they remain valued members of society.

We are currently seeking Bank Staff Nurses to join us on a casual, flexible basis as we help veterans losing their sight in Brighton.

The Benefits

- A salary of £19.79 per hour

This is a brilliant role for a registered nurse with an understanding of the needs of elderly and disabled people to join our vital organisation.

If you’re passionate about giving back to the service people who have dedicated their lives to serving this country, then you’ll have the chance to help individuals with impaired sight to live rich, enjoyable lives.

We can offer a role that is highly flexible, meaning we can accommodate your needs, whether you need a little extra cash or are looking for the opportunity to give back to the community, this is the position for you!

The Role

As a Staff Nurse, you will oversee the delivery of compassionate, person-centred care to the veterans that enables them to lead a rich and fulfilling life.

Contributing to the assessment and formulation of individual care plans, you will record and audit the delivery of care plans and report any safeguarding concerns where necessary.

Providing excellent leadership to our Health Care Assistants and Care Leads, you will observe the delivery of care and provide feedback to ensure consistently high standards.

Additionally, you will:

- Promote a collaborative learning environment
- Write clear, informative handovers
- Ensure safe infection control procedures are followed
- Act as the named nurse for permanent members

- Experience of working as a Staff Nurse
- Knowledge of the care needs of elderly and disabled people
- The ability to maintain clear and legible documentation
- Relevant clinical skills

Experience of lone working at night would be highly beneficial, as would experience of working with visually impaired people.

It would be advantageous to have experience of supervising junior team members and/or to have completed a membership course such as the ENB 998 (or equivalent).

Ideally, you will have a First aid at Work certificate and we are also especially keen to hear from you if you have an RMN qualification or are willing to develop your understanding of dementia through a similar training course.

Please note, we are reviewing candidates on an ongoing basis. As such, we would encourage you to apply as soon as possible.
