About Us

Sported is a leading charity supporting the UK's largest network of sport and physical activity groups and we exist to provide the skills, resources and funding needed for them to become sustainable and deliver services to the young people and communities they serve.

It has never been a harder time to be a young person growing up in the UK. Poverty, crime and mental health issues coupled with youth unemployment and COVID-19, have compounded already disadvantaged communities and individuals and widened inequalities.

We support the thousands of community sports groups that seek to remove barriers from young people’s lives to allow them to thrive against the odds.

We’re now looking for a Head of Inclusion & People to join our Strategic Leadership Team on a permanent, full-time basis, working four or five days per week.

This is an unmissable opportunity for an EDI expert with a fantastic leadership style to step into an incredibly leading role with the UK’s largest network of community groups.

With EDI lying at the heart of our work, we need your expertise to help us to learn, evolve and effectively meet the needs of the communities we serve. You’ll be taking on a senior leadership role at the highest level of our organisation, ensuring we remain at the forefront of inclusion activity and our organisation continues to lead the way.

The Role

Collaborating with the whole Sported team, you will advocate for our members and ensure that inclusion is at the core of community sport and physical activity.

You’ll line manage our Race Equity Lead, Wellbeing Lead, Disability Lead and
People & Culture Officer and enhance our EDI offer by developing and supporting fundraising opportunities for new partnerships and projects.

Working closely with the CEO and department heads, you’ll manage the delivery of the objectives outlined in our EDI framework and plan actions to promote an inclusive work environment.

Additionally, you will:

- Represent Sported and our network within the sector
- Identify and respond to national and regional key external trends

- Provide analysis and assessment of the diversity of our People practices

About You

- Experience of implementing an EDI strategy and driving EDI initiatives
- Experience of writing EDI related content
- Experience of diversity analytics and an understanding of diversity data
- Excellent communication and public speaking skills with the ability to influence a range of stakeholders
- Experience of attending senior meetings, chairing and facilitating round table discussions

To best support our people and EDI goals, lived experience of inequality could help you identify with the needs and backgrounds of many of our associates and those we engage with in the community, although possessing empathy (and putting yourselves in the shoes of others) is the key thing here.
