We are now looking for a Lecturer in Islamic Studies to join us on a full time, 4 year fixed term basis for working 37 hours per week.

- THE ROLE -
We are looking for a highly proficient Qur’an scholar, fluent in Arabic, to work within a team of academics looking at the translation of the Qur’an and selected Hadith from Arabic into Welsh. You will play a key role in providing guidance, scholarship and deep knowledge of the Koran and related texts. The team will be composed of academics from various disciplines, including Welsh and Translation studies, and will be working in conjunction with scholars from Cardiff University.

Subject to the requirements of the project, you may also deliver some teaching and workshops, on the project or on wider Islamic / Koranic issues, or contribute to related activities such as the Translation Studies Reading Group.. This may also include support for the delivery of postgraduate studies and where appropriate Dissertation supervision. You will undertake their own scholarship and research, to ensure ongoing professional development and to enhance the profile of the Academic Discipline, Institute and University. Where appropriate you may also make a positive contribution to the day-to-day activities of the Academic Discipline that may cover areas such as marketing activities, appropriate administrative activities, research seminars and workshops, staff training and professional development.

- ABOUT YOU -
To be considered as a Lecturer in Islamic Studies, you will need:
- An honours degree in a relevant discipline
- A postgraduate qualification in a relevant discipline
- A PhD (or near to completion) in a relevant discipline and area
- Deep knowledge and understanding of the Qur’an and selected Hadith.
- Depp knowledge and understanding of the wider linguistic and historiographical contexts of the Qur’an and selected Hadith.
- Some experience in teaching, delivery, assessment and student support at undergraduate or postgraduate level in a relevant subject area
- Demonstrable ongoing commitment to scholarship, research, project work and professional improvement.
- Evidence of good organisational and personal management skills
- Evidence of excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively
- IT proficiency and experience of using e-resources including a willingness to teach by video-link, VLE, e-mail or website delivery
- Evidence of ability to balance competing pressures of teaching, scholarship, research, administrative demands and deadlines

It would also be beneficial if you had:
- Membership of a relevant professional body or teaching qualification
- Experience of supervision
- An ability to communicate through the medium of Welsh
