We’re MindOut LGBTQ Mental Health Service, a charity dedicated to improving the wellbeing and mental health of all LGBTQ communities, as well as raising awareness of issues surrounding mental health within our communities.

We are run by and for LGBTQ+ people with lived experience of mental health issues and our work is co-produced by service users, volunteers and staff. As we promote equality and diversity in our communities, we champion these same qualities in our workplace and actively invest in our colleague’s wellbeing.

We are currently seeking a Trans Mental Health Advocate to join our team on a permanent, part-time basis working 21-24 hours per week, ideally over four days.

This is a fantastic opportunity for a mental health advocate with experience of working to Advocacy Quality Performance Mark standards and knowledge of trans and non-binary issues to join our vital organisation.

The Role

As a Trans Mental Health Advocate, you will provide individual service users with support and advocacy around issues relating to trans and non-binary identities.

Determining the needs of individuals, you’ll provide guidance, representation and information on accessing primary care, legal rights and mental health pathways.

Ensuring that service users are aware of all available options, you will accompany or represent them at decision making meetings including clinical assessments.

Additionally, you will:

- Support service users to self-advocate and express opinions
- Maintain accurate and confidential service user records
- Provide outreach services to marginalised LGBTQ+ communities
- Liaise with statutory & voluntary sector service providers

About You

To be considered as a Trans Mental Health Advocate, you will need:

- A minimum of two years' experience in advocacy, health or social care (or related field)
- Experience of working to the standards set out by the Advocacy Quality Performance Mark
- Experience of an affirmative approach to LGBTQ mental health issues
- Personal understanding and broad experience of trans and non-binary issues
- Knowledge of trans health and social care pathways, related services, research and legislation
- Good local knowledge of statutory and third sector service provision
- Understanding of coproduction, service user engagement and participation
- The ability to manage and organise your caseload
- The ability to engage with vulnerable adults in distress

Ideally, you will have accredited training in advocacy such as National Advocacy Qualification or be willing to undertake training and qualify alongside your duties.

Experience of casework management and advocacy representation, including trans and nonbinary related support would be highly beneficial.
