Salary: Mulberry Pay Scale, Grade Beech, Level 1, £13.85 per hour

Purpose of Post

The flexible retail assistant is responsible for:

• Providing excellent customer service
• Maximizing sales and profitability
• Supporting the manager and assistant manager in generating sufficient stock through contact with donors
• Supporting the shop manager and assistant manager in the day to day running of the shop
• Representing Trinity Shops and Royal Trinity Hospice in a professional manner.

Main Responsibilities

To assist the Shop Manager and assistant in the following:

• To meet agreed sales and profit targets
• To be proactive in generating donations from the public
• To be proactive in generating Gift Aid conversions from people donating goods
• To sell goods profitably in accordance with agreed price structures after selection and valuation and within agreed timescales
• To maintain a high standard of display, presentation and cleanliness throughout the shop
• To be responsible for maintaining the highest standards of customer care
• To be aware of, and adhere to, all company policies and procedures
• To be aware of the financial procedures including the operation of the cash register, cashing up and reconciling the day’s takings at the end of each day in accordance with the company’s cash handling procedures and, in the absence of the shop manager, for ensuring they are adhered to
• To work closely with the shop manager to encourage growth in the shop’s turnover by encouraging local awareness of the need for quality donations
• To minimize loss of stock
• To ensure that all statutory requirements are met with regard to Health and Safety at Work in respect of facilities, equipment, staff and volunteers
• To ensure that all Trinity Hospice Shops Limited retail outlets acknowledge and welcome diversity
• To undertake other duties from time to time as may be required by the post-holder’s line manager

Maintenance and Health and Safety
• Provide a safe environment for customers, staff and volunteers
• Make sure that the premises conform to required health and safety regulations
• To report any maintenance matters promptly to the Retail Operation Manager
• To ensure that all statutory requirements are met with regard to Health and Safety at work in respect of facilities, equipment, staff and volunteers; to report all outstanding health and safety matters to the Retail Operation Manager
