ABOUT THE ROLE
• To carry out maintenance and repair work required to a range of faulty, damaged, worn or fatigued materials and /or components or parts of a structure and repair in part or replace in total as required, including responsive/emergency work.
• Where required provide support to tradespersons, labourers and apprentices within the team in the performance of their duties.
• Carry out all works to meet client/customer standards good practice regulation or other directive.
• To ensure effective communication with customers, office-based team and the wider council
• To carry out responsive/emergency/temporary repair or small component replacement work as required, or repairs; make safe and/or make lock tight and/or wind and/or watertight, using appropriate replacement material
• To work with and compliment tradespeople during maintenance/alterations and stock improvement works
• To maintain current and develop new competencies and certification required of the post eg skills, knowledge qualification/certification etc
• Resolve complaints quickly and efficiently
• undertake any additional responsibilities as directed by the line manager commensurate with the level and grading for the role
• To be part of the Repairs Service out of hours rota.


ABOUT YOU
The successful candidate will have
• Ability to ensure that all work is carried out to a high standard of workmanship, good practice and customer care
• Knowledge of health & safety practices and regulations including Health & Safety awareness and understanding appropriate to role

• Ability to manage, log and track inventory of materials and equipment
• Ability to work on own with minimum supervision
• Ability to use computerised diagnostic and testing equipment etc
• Good team worker and team player to ensure that all Stevenage Borough Council’s values and behaviours, policies and procedures are adhered to.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, customer service awareness and focus
