Inert and Closed Site Supervisor

Salary - £32,454 - £40,564 per annum (plus benefits)
Hours - Full-Time
Location - Wakefield, WF6 2JA

As an Inert and Closed Site Supervisor at FCC Environment, you will ensure inert and closed sites are operated safely, efficiently and in compliance with environmental, operational and regulatory requirements. You will oversee contractor activities, carry out site inspections, support restoration projects and help maintain strong relationships with customers, regulators and local communities.

Travel within the working day is an essential requirement of this role. A single-cab company vehicle will be allocated, along with a fuel card, to facilitate travel between sites. The successful candidate will also be required to provide cover at other sites during periods of annual leave or staff absence, as well as undertake rotational checks and visits at other sites across the counties. Flexibility and a willingness to travel between locations are therefore essential.

What will you be doing?

- Ensuring sites are operated safely and in compliance with company procedures, environmental permits and statutory requirements
- Supervising inert and closed landfill sites and supporting restoration projects
- Managing contractor activities and ensuring all work is carried out in line with FCC procedures
- Conducting daily, weekly and monthly site inspections and compliance checks
- Monitoring landfill gas, leachate systems and environmental performance across sites
- Booking and processing soil imports through electronic weighbridge systems
- Carrying out site inductions for contractors, visitors and temporary workers
- Liaising with customers, contractors, regulators and other stakeholders to ensure operational requirements are met
- Supporting the maintenance of site infrastructure, plant and equipment
- Accompanying visitors and regulatory bodies during site visits and inspections

What are we looking for?

- Previous supervisory experience within the waste industry is desirable
- Understanding of environmental issues such as landfill gas, leachate and surface water management
- Experience supervising contractors and managing site activities
- Basic understanding of Health and Safety legislation
- Good IT skills, including the use of email, Microsoft Word and smartphones
- Able to work independently and follow lone working procedures
- Flexible approach to working hours and location to support operational requirements
- Willingness to work outdoors throughout the year
- Strong problem-solving and organisational skills
- Full, clean UK driving licence essential
