We are Family Action, a national charity committed to building stronger families and brighter lives by delivering innovative and effective services and support that reaches out to many of the UK’s most vulnerable people.

The 16-25 year old Young Person’s Transitions Mental Health Service provides early access help for young people with moderate to severe mental health problems who would not be suitable for adult services. It facilitates the transition to adult services where appropriate and improves the mental well-being of young people by providing focused counselling/psychotherapy, accessible drop-in provision, therapeutic group work and keywork support.

We’re now looking for a Qualified Counsellor / Psychotherapist on a fixed term contract to join our team in Hackney for a temporary contract until 31st March 2021 with the potential to extend subject to funding.

The Role

As a Qualified Counsellor / Psychotherapist, you will be tasked with completing assessments, delivering 1:1 sessions and evaluating therapeutic interventions for young people.

Running outcome focused sessions for up to 24 weeks, you will also be involved in associated case management and related admin work.

Your role will specifically involve:

- Carrying out clinical and holistic assessments of service users’ needs and suitability
- Maintaining a caseload of 16 – 18 service users
- Providing high quality support, through the best possible interventions
- Keeping excellent, up-to-date records

As part of your role, you will be required to provide some evening sessions up until 8pm for around two days per week, including Thursdays, as part of your full time working hours.

About You

To be considered as a Qualified Counsellor / Psychotherapist, you will need:

- Significant relevant post qualification experience as a counsellor and/or psychotherapist and evidence of experience of working with children, young people and/or young adults with complex mental health and psychosocial issues
- Experience of monitoring, evaluating and reviewing treatment in progress, adapting delivery to maximise client engagement, applying clear knowledge of counselling and psychotherapeutic theory and practice
- Demonstrable experience of advising and liaising with other professionals in relation to young peoples’ mental health needs
- The ability to work flexibly to meet the needs of the service, including providing sessions until 8pm on up to two evenings per week (minimum one evening)
- To hold an individual BACP (or equivalent) registration or accreditation (or be eligible for accreditation) with a proven commitment to continuing learning and professional development including active participation in clinical supervision, line management supervision and performance appraisals
- To be educated to level three or above, with a recognised professional Counselling or Psychotherapy qualification

The closing date for this role is Wednesday the 15th July 2020, with interviews scheduled to be held on Monday the 20th July 2020.
