Chinese Tutor

| £30,942 to £34,804 pro rata per annum

Employer: University of Wales Trinity Saint David
Sector/Specialism: Education & Training

The UWTSD Confucius Institute (CI) is a vibrant intercultural organisation providing courses in Mandarin and Chinese culture to schools, University students, professional groups, and adults across mid and south Wales.

Over the last year, we have developed an exciting range of new online and blended learning Mandarin courses. Some of our new specialist courses are aimed at various professional groups, such as Hospitality Mandarin for managers in the tourism sector, and ‘Learn to Teach Mandarin’ for Welsh teachers wishing to acquire new subject skills. In addition, the CI has created the first Chinese teaching materials to be published in the medium of Welsh for primary schools to support the Welsh New Curriculum’s Triple Literacy Programme.

- THE ROLE -
An opportunity has arisen for a talented, passionate and innovative teaching professional to further develop our new courses, and to deliver high quality Chinese language teaching to a variety of student groups of different ages. A key part of the role involves innovation, developing content for Chinese/English/Welsh triple literacy resources for primary schools.

You will work closely with the CI’s senior leadership to help raise awareness of Chinese language learning opportunities among UWTSD students by organising taster events and contributing to cultural activities. As some of the CI’s courses lead to national qualifications, part of the role also includes course and exam administration.

You should be prepared to engage in remote delivery via synchronous and asynchronous online teaching in the short term, due to Covid-19 restrictions, but should also be prepared for face-to-face delivery on campus in the near future in either Swansea, Carmarthen or Lampeter. Therefore, a certain amount of travel may be required from time to time.

Please view the Job Description for further details, where you will also find a list of the essential and desirable ‘Person Specification’ criteria.

- REQUIREMENTS -
You will need to hold:
• A Masters’ qualification in a relevant discipline or PGCE
• A certificate of Putonghua Proficiency Level 2, Grade A, or HSK Level 6 for non-native speakers of Chinese

You should also have:
• Excellent English language skills
• Experience of teaching delivery and assessment in British schools with some experience across all key stages from KS1 to KS5
• Experience of designing and delivering synchronous and asynchronous online teaching
• The ability to create systematic and innovative language teaching content
• Experience of creating engaging Chinese culture course contents
