Sector/Specialism: Charity

Project Co-ordinator - NI Heritage
Northern Ireland - Home based (with some travel across Northern Ireland)

About Us

Sported is the UK’s largest network of community sports groups and we exist to provide the skills and funding needed so our network can become sustainable and deliver services to those most in need.

It has never been a harder time to be a young person growing up in the UK. Poverty, crime and mental health issues coupled with youth unemployment and COVID-19, have compounded already disadvantaged communities and individuals and widened inequalities.

We support the thousands of community sports groups that seek to remove barriers from young people’s lives to allow them to thrive against the odds.

We’re now looking for a Project Co-ordinator to join us on a freelance basis, working an estimated three days per week, from September 2021 to August 2022.

The Benefits

- £96.15 per day (plus agreed expenses) paid monthly

We’ve got an exciting vision, to enable young people to overcome barriers, and a clear vision, helping community groups and young people to thrive. We’re looking for those who share these goals to help us reach, include, and empower communities and enact change through sport and physical activity.

What’s more, our working environment is all about inclusion, support and getting involved and focusing on personal growth through investing in learning and development.

So, if ours sounds like the sort of place where you could thrive and our mission speaks to your mentality and mindset, we want to hear from you.

The Role

Sported passionately believes in the role of sport to transform local communities. We have been highly influential in building the credibility and effectiveness of ‘sport for development’ and supporting grassroots groups to capture the impact of their work at local level.

Funded by The National Lottery Heritage Fund, we wish to develop a Report (collection of digital, video and written stories) further exploring how sport has shaped local communities and identities across NI, over the past 100 years.

The Report will compile archive material through desk research and interviews with key stakeholders and capture oral case studies from the Sported network through events and focus groups. It will involve people from a range of backgrounds, encouraging them to engage with history and embrace diverse perspectives.

The Report will highlight the role Sport has played in shaping the identity of Northern Ireland’s communities in the past 100 years. This will be shared with key stakeholders across the sector - from volunteers at local sports clubs to Sport NI, Governing Bodies and other funders - to encourage ongoing support for this sector.

As the Project Co-ordinator, you will oversee the delivery and administration of the project in line with Sported’s Project Management Framework.

You will:

- Deliver against the Project Plan to meet objectives, outputs and outcomes
- Complete desk research to compile archive material - written and digital
- Deliver and organise project events, interviews and focus groups
- Facilitate interviews with stakeholders (NGBs, partners, Sported member groups, local participants)
- Build strong relationships with participating Sported member groups
- Keep the membership database up to date
- Lead on content creation for case studies and comms
- Produce a report highlighting the community heritage and sharing the case studies
- Work closely with volunteers and provide support to participating member groups
- Attend events to help promote the project
