Our client is recruiting for an apprentice fibre engineer to join their team in Rochester working in London and the South East.

The Company
Network Build & Installation

Overhead Fibre Cabling:
Our IPAF trained and accredited engineering teams are able to install overhead fibre spans, fit overhead manifolds and connectorized block terminals from the safety of our Mobile Elevated Work Platforms (MEWP).

Underground Fibre Cabling:
Our cable installation teams are skilled and experienced in all elements of fibre cable installation including duct testing & proving, rodding and roping, installing sub-duct and direct fibre cables.

Air Blown Fibre Cabling:
Utilising the speed and efficiencies of air blown fibre installations, our teams are able to rapidly install multiple fibres through multiple micro ducts or blow a single large cable through a single sub duct.

Fibre Splicing Testing & Commissioning:
We can provide a full range of fibre splicing for single or multi-mode fibre, complemented by both OTDR or ILM testing and network commissioning.

Overblowing & Civils Avoidance:
To reduce the time and cost to our clients in building new network, we are able to undertake ‘Overblow’ activities to install additional fibre cables through existing sub-duct.

Cabinet Installation & Upgrades:
Our teams of engineers and technicians install and upgrade telecommunications cabinets for copper, fibre, power and active equipment and hardware.

The Position

Job Title: Apprentice Fibre Engineer
Apprenticeship Course: Level 3 Information Communication Technician
Apprenticeship Duration: 18 months
Location: Rochester - working in London and the South East
Working Hours: 07.00-15.30 (Onsite)
Salary: £10,000 - £18,000, depending on experience

Role and Responsibilities:
Working within a gang of 3, installing fibre optic cables inside the existing BT Openreach ducts to build ultrafast broadband networks.

Rodding and Roping:
Assist carrying out risk assessments prior to work, along with dynamic risk assessments throughout your working day.
Learn how to interpret box-to-box diagrams and maps, to understand the planned cable routes.
Support ensuring entry point is safe, using gate guards and signage where appropriate.
Learn how to carry out rodding and roping to establish whether planned cable routes are clear, viable and ready.
Learn how to identify blockages and attempt to pass them.
Learn how to complete A55 forms to identify the precise location of any blockage that requires clearance using a dig-down.
Learn how to use traffic management as needed in accordance with Chapter 8.
Work with civils contractors as a when needed.

Cabling:
Use the information provided in the job pack to prepare cable and pull into the route, install the following ropes for the next cable where required, leave coils for installing the client equipment, and ensure all cables are secure.
Label in accordance with BT Openreach requirements at entry and exit points. Take photographs, as required, for completing As—built documentation.
Take responsibility for all tools issued to you, in accordance with our Tool policy.
