Nature Recovery Apprentice (Level 7)

Skipton | Band F

Employer: Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority
Sector/Specialism: Public Sector

Would you like to be part of a team that is responsible for conserving, enhancing and raising awareness of the biodiversity of the Yorkshire Dales National Park? If so, we have an exciting opportunity for anyone contemplating a career in the environmental sector to join our Wildlife Conservation team as the Nature Recovery Apprentice.

About Us

We are the Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority, an organisation that protects, enhances, and promotes the immense beauty, wildlife, and character of the Yorkshire Dales. Set against expansive heather moorland tops, each valley has its own distinct charm, from crags and waterfalls to an underground labyrinth of caves.

We are looking for a full time (37 hours) Nature Recovery Apprentice to join us on a level 7 apprenticeship starting in September 2022 on a 3-year fixed term contract until September 2025. The role is based at our Grassington office, near Skipton, with the potential for some home working and a requirement to attend four residential field courses to Cornwall during the three-year period.

This is an exciting opportunity for you to join a National Park and work in one of the UK’s most striking and breath-taking locations. What’s more, by the end of the placement, you will have immeasurably improved your career prospects and employability through hands-on experience and a qualification to back it up.

The Role

A fantastic opportunity to work at the cutting edge of conservation on landscape-scale Nature Recovery initiatives and implementing Biodiversity Net Gain in a National Park setting.

You will gain experience and learn alongside an experienced multi-disciplinary team delivering positive outcomes for farming, trees & woodlands and nature.

You will be enrolled with Cornwall College to study and achieve the Level 7 Ecologist Apprenticeship qualification, which is run by the award winning Eden Project and is accredited by the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM).

About You

To join us as the Nature Recovery Apprentice, you will need a minimum of five level 2 (GCSE level) qualifications at 9-4 (A* to C) including English and Maths. In addition, you will ideally have a level 6 (degree level) qualification in an ecology related subject, although this isn’t an essential requirement.

You will have a good knowledge and understanding of nature conservation and land management issues with a keen interest in the natural environment and an ambition to develop a career in this sector.

Our recruitment process treats all job applications equally, regardless of age, disability, gender identity, race, ethnicity, religion or belief, sex, sexual orientation or any other equality characteristic. That said, we particularly encourage applications from people from Black, Asian and other minority ethnic (BAME) backgrounds, as this group are currently under-represented throughout the Authority.
