A bit about what you will get up to…

The Welfare Support Team is a place where residents of South Tyneside receive excellent services for welfare benefits and debt. We also deliver a number of Funds on behalf of the Council assisting residents in times of financial crisis.

To complement the services we currently deliver, we are looking to appoint a Social Navigator as part of an exciting new project. There are many specialist advice services in the Borough but there are also many barriers preventing our residents from accessing specialist services around benefits, debt, employment, social isolation and digital - the role of Social Navigators is to help residents of the Borough access the services they need to resolve their wellbeing issues.

If you think this all sounds good, then here is what we need from you…

As a Social Navigator, you should be able to work with clients on a one-on-one basis empowering our residents to determine and overcome the barriers preventing them from receiving the help they need. You will need to be capable of working closely and liaising with other agencies, researching and gathering information so that residents can achieve the best outcomes. You will be able to demonstrate experience of providing support and enabling services to residents and keeping comprehensive records. You should be comfortable delivering your service face to face as well as over the telephone and via email.

If you are looking for an exciting challenge and want to help people to access the specialist services they need, then this role is for you.

This position is based at South Shields Town Hall, however, there is currently a requirement for hybrid working. You must be flexible and prepared to travel to various locations to speak to customers where required so access to a car or other means of mobility is essential.

If you would like to know anything more about the role, we will be pleased to answer any of your questions. Please contact the Welfare Support Management Team - contact details will be provided upon application.

This post requires an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) to be carried out of which you will need to apply for if your application for the role is successful.

If you are interested by what you have read and meet our criteria, we would love to hear from you. Please click “Apply Now” to submit your application via our recruitment portal providing a CV and supporting statement outlining how you meet the criteria outlined in the attached Person Specification. Please ensure that you anonymise your CV supporting statement.

Closing date: Friday 9th September.

BT Typetalkers welcome.

Interviews are scheduled to be held week beginning 26th September.

Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any specific requirements during the application process.
