Job Description

STEP is a UKAEA programme that will demonstrate the ability to generate net electricity from fusion. It will also determine how the plant will be maintained through its operational life and prove the potential for the plant to produce its own fuel. It is a very exciting time for STEP as the West Burton power station site in North Nottinghamshire has been selected as the home of the STEP fusion energy programme, underpinning an industry expected to be worth billions to the UK economy.

Who are we looking for?

Following the news that the West Burton site will be the home of the STEP Fusion Energy Programme, we now have an exciting opportunity for a Site and Stakeholder Manager to join STEP and provide general management at our West Burton site.

This is a multi-faceted role, and the successful candidate will lead on building a new on-site operations team, build and manage positive relations with internal and external stakeholders and ensure the efficient execution of all site operational plans.

What will you be responsible for?

- Overall management of the STEP activities at West Burton, including all administrative and operational area
- Early site works, such as site characterization studies, site preparation, minor construction works, etc
- Preparation for major construction, including site layout planning, construction planning, preparing for environmental, geotechnical and all other studies needed to secure the consents we need to build STEP
- Engaging with local communities, stakeholders, regulators and the regional supply chain and acting as the STEP representative in the region

Additional Information:

Flexible working hours and locations. Will need to travel to and attend local business and community events. Based on site at West Burton, but with frequent travel to Culham, Rotherham, etc. Will need a valid driving license.

Qualifications

Essential skills, experience and competence required

- Demonstrable experience of site works management and business administration, preferably in the construction or engineering sectors
- Proven experience of networking, community relations and stakeholder engagement.
- Knowledge and experience working on a complex large-scale project, ideally a Nationally Significant Infrastructure Project
- An engineering degree or equivalent qualifications or experience
- A proactive approach to safety, with a good appreciation of UK construction and office safety regulations.
- Demonstrable experience of working autonomously, from own initiative and with minimum supervision.
- Experience of successfully working collaboratively across programme boundaries and/or teams.
- Excellent communication skills - both written and verbal.
- Strategic and innovative thinker.

Desirable skills, experience and competence

- Business Administration, Project Management and/or stakeholder management qualifications.
- A recognised certification in site or construction safety.
- Knowledge of permitting and consenting of infrastructure projects under Town and Country Planning Act and Development Consent Order regulations.
- Managing Invitations to Tender and supply chain management; knowledge of NEC form of contract.
