Full-time, 37 hours per week (part-time working and job share considered). Permanent. Based in Hertford with the option for home working up to 50% of working hours* Closing date is Monday 19 December 2022 at 9am

About the role

An opportunity for a professional Electoral Services Assistant has become available to work at our Wallfields office in Hertford as part of the Electoral Services team. This is an exciting time for you to join us and develop your career as we are a diverse political Council with Members of all major parties. The team is at the forefront of all elections in the District.

This motivated and highly professional team is looking for an individual committed to excellence in their work and with a passion for being part of the democratic process. If successful you will assist across all aspects of electoral services including processing applications for inclusion on the electoral register and for postal and proxy votes, answering the telephone and email enquiries and assisting in the running of all elections and referendums.

Some of the key responsibilities include:

- To provide support in the conduct of all types of election and the annual revision of the register of electors
- To utilise knowledge of electoral registration law to accurately process all categories of individual electoral registration applications in accordance with strict deadlines and statutory requirements
- To assist in conducting the annual electoral registration canvass of all households
- To undertake year-round doorstep canvassing of individuals who have not responded to invitations to register
- To assist with the recruitment of staff during Elections and the Annual Canvass
- To assist with the booking of venues to hold Elections and subsequent payments

About you

We are seeking an enthusiastic team player who enjoys a customer-facing environment. This role will suit a skilled administrator with good attention to detail.

The ideal candidate will have:

- Ability to work under pressure and to deadlines
- Ability to work accurately and efficiently
- Ability to plan and organise workload to meet Service area’s priorities
- Enthusiastic and flexible approach to work
- Ability to work as a team to achieve objectives and meet deadlines
- Ability to undertake doorstep canvassing of potential electors throughout the district
