We are currently seeking a Philanthropy Manager to join us on a permanent full-time basis working 35 hours per week

The Role

IIED is expanding its Business Development Department. This is truly an excellent opportunity for a high calibre philanthropic fundraising professional with experience of working with high-value donors to join us as we build a sustainable world. The role requires extensive experience of working with trusts and foundations, philanthropists and high-net worth individuals, including EU and US-based foundations, as well as developing and delivering fundraising strategies, propositions, pitches and briefings to secure core and strategic income. This is a new role within IIED, reflecting the organisation’s investment in Business Development, and would suit someone with an entrepreneurial spirit, who is excited by generating meetings with high net worth funders, attending donor events and galvanising interest in IIED to secure flexible financial commitment.

In the wake of COP27, you will be joining us at a time when environmental sustainability is at the top of the agenda for high-level donors across the world, meaning your work will be directed at an engaged audience.

You will be work very closely with IIED’s core funding group, comprising the new Executive Director and Director of Strategic Impact, who are leading efforts to build new philanthropic funder relationships with a wide selection of potential donors, including trusts, foundations, philanthropists, multi-laterals, governments and companies. You will work closely with the group to help win high-value, strategic and flexible funding.

About You

To be considered as a Philanthropy Manager, you will need:

- Experience of working with high-net-worth trusts, foundations and philanthropists, including US and EU-based foundations.
- Experience of developing and producing six-figure plus, high-value proposals, pitches and budgets.
- Experience of securing face-to-face donor meetings, attending donor event, donor networking.
- Experience of CRM and project management systems.
- Proven capacity to work on your own initiative and with minimal supervision.
- High knowledge of sustainable development and climate change issues.
- An awareness of the actors, institutions and issues in the sustainable development arena.
- The ability to influence at a senior level.
- Advanced IT skills, particularly with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint).
- A degree (or equivalent).

The ability to speak another international language, in addition to English, would be beneficial.
