How Webrecruit helped the leading animal charity to modernise its recruitment processes through the introduction of an Applicant Tracking System (ATS).
Wood Green, The Animals Charity has grown to become one of the leading animal welfare organisations in the UK. From its four centres, they find new homes for 5,000 animals every year. It has a small HR team, which services recruitment requirements for multiple sites; hiring for permanent and temporary staff across varying disciplines.
The team at Wood Green widely accepted that their current hiring practices were in need of modernisation. This was because they were inundated with administration, relying on spreadsheets and dated processes to help them to hire, which impacted productivity.
There was no centrally managed system, no reporting – but the appetite to streamline and make sure use of the brand to attract talent was there. Wood Green posed the following challenge to Webrecruit: to bring their recruitment online – from application processes to the physical management of hiring – in a style and rate of learning suited to their current set up.
The ambition to learn and transform their processes was there, but Wood Green required a partner who could teach them how to make the move from spreadsheets, identify the most effective resources to advertise, and roll-out the solution as different stakeholders bought-in to the proposal.
Every decision needed to support the business case of making things efficient. This would see the introduction of an ATS and careers site, as well as the granting of access to Webrecruit’s recruitment services.
As the technology was developed and implemented, and training was taking place, any recruitment needs that arose were managed by Webrecruit to ensure it did not affect Wood Green’s daily activity.
The introduction of the ATS, it was found, would save the charity £4,000 a year in time spent on recruitment admin – making the process immediately beneficial.
Through the application of technology, Wood Green has dramatically reduced the number of hours spent on admin and has been heavily involved in the deployment of a system that’s suited to its needs and workflow, allowing them to manage all hiring through one central system.
Additional benefits included:
- Better control of recruitment spend
- Reporting to inform the department’s progress against KPIs
- Customisation that allowed them to feed data into their fundraising activities
- Online application processes allowing for the build of talent pools
With a need to streamline our recruitment process, we wanted a technology that was user friendly and efficient. Using the ATS will not only improve the efficiency of our recruitment overall, but will also help maximise data capture from those applying to the charity; offering a new channel to attract supporters. From the outset, Webrecruit has been approachable, professional and understood our needs and the challenges we face as a charity. Always ready with a solution and always happy to support us.”
