The Company


Wessex Education Shared Services (WESS) is a shared service company, wholly owned by, and operated on behalf of, education institutions based in Southern England.

The Challenge


We caught up with Lorraine Hunt, WESS’s HR Manager, who oversees recruitment for the shared service, as well as member colleges, Brockenhurst College and Bournemouth and Poole College.

Working within the education sector, Lorraine and her team were challenged with achieving true value for money whilst minimising cost.

WESS recruits for a wide range of teaching and non-teaching positions, covering all subjects, as well as numerous finance, HR, admin and IT roles for the shared service. With a national skills shortage across many areas, the team found it challenging to attract candidates who possessed particular skill sets.

Our most challenging positions to fill are often construction lecturer/assessor roles, as well as nursery positions. Particular skill sets are difficult to find and potential recruits are looking towards jobs within industry. In the past, senior roles within the colleges have been difficult to fill with limited recruitment sources.”
