We are known for our abundance of musical talent. From the iconic Van ‘the Man’ Morrison to the Irish lilts of Clannad combined with the modern songs of Snow Patrol, we are a place moved by music. This summer will see local and international talent combine to create some great days and nights out which you will remember for years to come.
Today we are looking at the amazing musical talent which you must see this summer. We are so passionate about flourishing talent in all fields so we thought we would take this opportunity to talk about the up and coming local acts on the music scene. In regards to festivals, these singers and groups are on earlier as a support act – make sure to get down early, have a drink in the sunshine and enjoy the atmosphere!
In Belfast there are a wide array of festivals on offer. The city centre’s Custom House sees Belsonic return featuring an array of talent. Snow Patrol guitarist Nathan Connolly along with his band Little Matador are supporting Biffy Clyro on Sunday 17th August. Little Matador offer alternative rock vibes with song lyrics which are worryingly catchy. The hugely popular Dublin rockers Kodaline are headlining the festival on Monday 18th August and are bound to be a hit with students and those looking for a chilled night out alike. On Thursday 20th August the up and coming band The Minutes are the support act for Queen’s of the Stone Age. The Irish rock ’n’ roll three-piece have toured extensively with the likes of The Strokes, The Pigeon Detectives and Supergrass. All groups of musicians are sure to put on a great show at Custom House Square which offers a paved surface for anyone afraid of the muddy festival stereo-type.
If the classic wellington boot experience is what you are after, the options come in the form of Féile an Phobail in West Belfast or Sunflower Festival in Hillsborough. Féile an Phobail has been running for over twenty years and this year will see the classic pop crooners Boyzone take the main-stage. Along with Ronan and co., the “Kings of the Irish music scene”, the Wolfe Tones are also gearing up for a performance. If classic Irish music is what you are looking for, the stunning voice of Francis Black will bring Clonard Monastery alive on the 5th August as part of the festival. Sunflower Festival in Hillsborough is offering an array of independent music in a festival which is appropriate for all the family. Over 3 days, more than 80 acts will grace the stage. The festival also features a “Kidz Zone’ where the little people in your life can enjoy creative games and workshops.
In Dublin’s Marlay Park from the 18th-20th August, Longitude Festival is offering three jam packed days of popular music acts. Handsome (or so the ladies of the Webrecruit office think) Dublin brothers Hudson Taylor will play on the first day of the festival. Their catchy style and stunning harmonies are sure to be a hit with festival-goers. Bray born Hozier will play the festival on the second day. The 24 year old former Anuna member has a very interesting style with a mystical quality to his voice. He is definitely a huge talent to watch over the coming years. James Vincent McMorrow will play Longitude on the final day. The Irish singer-songwriter has gained a great international following and it is clear to see why- his haunting lyrics and crystal voice will make for a very chilled end to a huge weekend in Marlay Park. If the dates of Longitude don’t suit, the Indiependence Festival is taking place from 1st-3rd August at the Deer Farm, Michelstown, Cork. Many of the same acts are taking part and the festival offers a fun camping experience for the three days.
At Webrecruit Ireland we are actively searching for the best talent in numerous different fields who can be recruited for everything from their first job to jumping up the career ladder. We want to support talent and give employers the chance to recruit the best of the talented bunch of people we discover.
