The in-house recruiter – a day in the life

shutterstock_237606895So you have decided to bring recruitment in-house, and the task ahead seems like a difficult one. What is important now is having the right resources in terms of tools and people, to ensure your efforts are maximised.
Your in-house recruitment team will now need to be built, to aid your direct sourcing strategy for the company.
With new roles being created, you may be looking at what to put in the job description and what duties these recruiters will be carrying out daily.
The workload of such a position can vary, so Webrecruit Ireland has collated a list of frequent tasks that are associated with direct sourcing to aid you in creating the job description:

Candidate engagement

Communication with candidates will be a common task during the day for an in-house recruiter. From arranging interviews to making offers this will be an essential part of the responsibilities of the job.
This engagement needs to be effective, as the recruiter may be the first point of contact candidates have with your business. As such, these first impressions count.

Streamlining processes

For the In-house Recruitment Manager, there will be a constant search for ways to bring more cost effective and reliable processes to recruitment.
In doing so, the manager will look at strategies to reduce your cost-per-hire and may consider investing in recruitment software for a more efficient direct sourcing method.

Advertising sources

Your hiring strategy should be as effective as possible, in order to attract the right people to your organisation.
Daily tasks also include creating online job advertisements, using LinkedIn and other recruitment platforms, and liaising with job boards.
New In-House Recruiters may need to contact agencies frequently at the early stage of your direct sourcing strategy, whilst it is still being implemented.

Reporting

Once your recruitment has become in-house, recruitment metrics will need to be reported on calculated and analysed by the recruiter. This will enable you to view your average time and cost-per-hire whilst monitoring your progress overall.
Having this overview can also allow the In-House Recruitment Manager to modify where your strategy is going and where it may need to be, depending on the success of your direct sourcing plan so far.

Onboarding

The recruiter’s responsibility doesn’t finish at the candidate accepting an offer. Each new hire and their transition in to the business should be checked by the in-house recruiter to ensure a smooth change into their new role.
