Achieving my AAT With the Help of Webrecruit

Natalie ParsonsNatalie Parsons joined Webrecruit in April 2008 as an Administrator and now plays an integral role within our Accounts function.

I started working at Webrecruit 10 years ago in a junior admin role and I’d never even dreamed of venturing into finance.

However, as a company, we tend to muck-in wherever needed so I had the opportunity to get involved with a number of basic accounting tasks which made me realise how much I actually liked working with numbers!

I spoke about this to my manager at the time, who gave me more accounting tasks to do and he suggested studying towards my AAT qualification so I could broaden my knowledge and skills, not only to help the business at the time but assist with my future career development.

I then transitioned into a junior accounts role within the company, so was able to gain real ‘on-the-job’ experience while studying for my qualification.

Working in accounts is great and I’m fortunate enough to have a job that includes plenty of variety; no two days are the same. I get involved with everything from preparing and sending invoices and dealing with all aspects of the sales and purchase ledger to preparing management accounts and assisting with payroll.

The most rewarding part of my role is knowing that tasks I complete, such as preparing management reports, are an integral component to the successful running of the business. Working here, I feel valued and supported.

I’m not going to lie – there was one module of my AAT which I struggled with and had to re-take a number of times. However, in December 2017, I got the great news – I’d passed!

Now, I’m just about to celebrate my 10 year anniversary at Webrecruit and am looking forward to starting my CIMA over the coming months.

If you’re considering pursuing a career in something, I’d definitely advise mentioning it to your manager. Webrecruit have always been really supportive of internal progression and development.
